We are ready to start Summer Camp again this year at Dungarvan Enterprise Centre in association with Darock Media and Waterford
LEO. All kids are welcome to get a chance to see how fun it can be to work with computers.
This an exciting summer camp aimed at teaching kids how to code and
create websites, apps, programs, games and explore technology in an informal and creative environment. In addition to learning to code kids meet like minded people and are exposed to the possibilities of technology.
This camp promises a simple and
friendly approach to teaching skills in a fun learning environment. Skills
taught in this camp include how to write HTML, CSS, create themes and publish
fully functional websites.
Kids will also set to work with makey-makey’s - A MaKey-MaKey is an Arduino board that can make anything into a key! You can make a connection through anything that’s even a little bit conductive. You can also create inventions that combine conductive and non-conductive parts. It will work with any software that works with the keyboard or mouse e.g. Scratch, Power Point, Photo booth, piano, bongos. The possibilities are endless. Click here to see a screaming carrot :)
The camp
will be open to children from ages of 8 to 14 and takes place each day in Dungarvan Enterprise Centre from 10 am to 1 pm and will be running for 5 days, from 27th to the 31st of July.
This summer camp is a great opportunity for children to get practical experience with websites, code programs + computer languages and is open to any child with an interest in computers, from kids who have absolutely no knowledge to kids who know a little and want to know more.
Summer camp will take place in the
last week of July and will cost €99 per child and €160 for two siblings.

Dungarvan Enterprise Centre in
association with Local Enterprise Office will be running a Coding Camp for
children aged between 8 and 14 from Tuesday 7th April to Friday 10th
April 2015.
The Action Plan for Jobs 2015 emphasises
the importance of computer literacy to the future. Jordan Casey is a fine
example of the benefits of learning digital language from a young age. The 14
years old Waterford entrepreneur is the CEO of his own company, Casey Games-an
award winning independent video game company. Click here and watch a short movie about Jordan .
The teenage tech prodigy’s company has
had success developing apps for mobiles and the web such as Greenboy Touch,
Alien Ball versus Humans, and Food World.
The Dungarvan Enterprise Centre's Coding
Camp will be run in association with Calypso IT local based apps as well as
developing skills in writing HTML, using quiz HTML, and coding CSS.
The week long camp will be
delivered by the teacher and industry professional who also volunteers at
Tramore Coder Dojo.
The camp is suitable and will be
beneficial for children with an interest in computers, gaming and coding or
children who have a keen interest to develop skills in these areas.
The camp will run from 10am to 1pm.
The cost is €80 per child.

Dungarvan's Coding Camp for Kids most recent graduates!
Dungarvan Enterprise Centre would once again like to congratulate the 15 young minds who recently finished a fantastic, fun filled, five day Coding Camp hosted at the Centre.
During the week long camp the kids learned how to create themes, code websites and build apps, as well as much much more; all in a fun and interactive manner.
The turnout for the camp was brilliant to witness and the calibre of youngsters involved certainly bodes well for the future. The energetic presence and buzz of excitement created from their attitude and passion to learn made it a week to remember at Dungarvan Enterprise Centre.
Each
of the participants received a graduation certificate to acknowledge their hard
work and achievements in developing their skills in computer coding.
A special thanks to everyone who made the five day camp possible, especially to Darock Media who were excellent educators to the kids throughout the week.
Parents
are reminded that in September, the non-profit programme, DEC Coder Dojo, will
be returning to Dungarvan Enterprise Centre.
Coder Dojo is a global movement that teaches children coding skills. There are over
420 Dojos in 43 countries.
The
programme is free and runs on Saturday mornings throughout the school year.
Are you interested in making the most of your child's summer holidays?
Have you heard about the Coding Camp for kids coming to Dungarvan at the end of July?
Every morning from 10AM to 1PM between Monday July 21st to Friday July 25th, the Dungarvan Enterprise Centre, in association with the Local Enterprise Office, will be hosting a camp where children aged between 8 and 14 can come to learn and develop their computer skills.
The camp will be run in association with Darock Media - a local company that specialises in web design and app development.
The aim of the camp is to teach children skills such as coding websites and building apps as well as developing efficiency in writing HTML,
creating themes and publishing fully functional websites, all in a fun and simple manner.
This camp has the ability to greatly impact and benefit your child's future as Ireland's economy becomes ever more reliant on the digital sector. Experts predict our country's digital economy is set to surge to almost €22 billion alone by 2020 - a figure that will demand 150,000 news jobs in the digital market as a result. Add to this the current 20,000 shortfall of software engineers in this country and the advantages for learning computer coding at a young age is obvious.
But besides the bonuses of your child getting a head start in a skill that looks set to dominate the future economic market, learning code will enable your child to perform complex tasks on a computer - an art form that will allow them to build adventurous virtual worlds with no limits to their imaginations.
Cork teen Harry Moran is such an example of this. In 2011, the then 12 year old Moran, who learned to write code at a CoderDojo computer camp ran at his local primary school in Glasheen, created an app game called PizzaBot.
The game topped the Apple charts that year and beat off stiff competition from internationally recognised popular games such as AngryBirds and the Call of Duty app. The app made Moran Apple's youngest ever Mac app developer and he followed up on his orginal success with another game called RobotRun.
Waterford entrepreneur Jordan Casey is another fine
example of the benefits of learning digital language from a young age. The 14
year old Waterford entrepreneur is the CEO of his own company, Casey Games – an
award winning independent video game company.
The
teenage tech prodigy’s company has had huge success developing apps for mobiles
and the web such as Greenboy Touch, Alien Ball versus Humans, and Food World.
In the YouTube clip below watch Casey discuss one of his latest apps, TeacherWare, at the 2013 Dublin Web Summit. The app is designed to help teachers stay organised.
Two more recent success stories from Coding Camps in Ireland are 13 and 14 year old Cian Martin Bohan and Cormac Kinsella who this week launched their app Open Share. Open Share allows users to share a post across several social media networks simultaneously.
The
week long camp will be delivered by a teacher and an industry professional who
also volunteers at the Enterprise Centre’s Coder Dojo.
The camp is suitable and will be beneficial
for children with an interest in computers, gaming and coding or children who
have a keen interest to develop skills in these areas.
With the recent news that Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is looking to introduce computer coding as a subject at both primary and secondary schools - in some cases as early as this September, participation in this camp can offer a huge advantage and insight for your child.
If that is not enough reason for your child to participate in this wonderful and exciting full filled week then check out this short YoutTube clip entitled, Why Our Kids Must Learn to Code, where inspirational figures in the technology industry such as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg and Microsoft creator Bill Gates talk about the importance and value of children learning to code.
The cost of the week long camp is €99 per child. For
further enquiries or to book now, call 058
23598 or email dungarvanec@gmail.com.
